Amazing discovery: does arithmetic add up?


Earlier today a proof was announced that 9 + 10 = 21. The proof was announced jointly by Matthew Matheson and Habeeb Cisse, two of the most prominent mathematicians in the field. It involves lots of algebra. The proof is generally accepted by the mathematical community as correct. Here is the proof:

Let a=b.
Thus b/a = 1.
Now, 22a2-10a2=12a2.
We now have 22a2(b/a)-10a2(b/a)2=12a2.
This means that 22ab-10b2=12a2.
Adding 9a2-21ab to both sides, we have 9a2+ab-10b2=21a2-21ab.
Factorising, (9a+10b)(a-b)=21a(a-b).
Dividing by (a-b), we have 9a+10b=21a.
However, since a=b, this is 9a+10a=21a.
Dividing by a, we now have 9+10=21. QED.

The original proof involved a lot of group theory. The Matheson groups are, according to Matheson, fundamental to group theory. Applying the Cisse construct 10 times to the Matheson group M9 gives the Matheson group M21. However, Matheson had previously thought that applying the Cisse construct would add to the order of the Matheson group. M21 is known by Matheson to have order 21 and Cisse coefficient (1,4,2015). This led the pair to find the shorter, algebraic proof mentioned above. It is believed that the pair have been selected by the Nobel committee for the Nobel prize in mathematics.

This proof is unique and has evaded mathematicians for centuries. Some say that the maths teachers are part of a secret society to spread mathematical illiteracy by propagating the notion that 9+10=19. Others think that this could be the end of mathematics as we know it. Still others think we have found an alternative to the current system, a "new maths" that is really the true version. Whatever it is, it is shocking and appalling that maths teachers have been brainwashing us to believe totally incorrect basic principles, preventing anyone from ever gaining any mathematical knowledge or life skills.
